Aztec volcanoes legends

mtbike mexico mexicorivers

Ancient Aztec culture has always been somewhat of a mystery. The High Mexican plateau is a land shared by Aztec descendants and successors of the Spanish Conquistadors. With this intense mix of traditions comes the magic of the valley of volcanoes that still seems to be surrounded by its ancient Gods, now in the form of 5 massive  snow covered peaks!

We’ll hike through tropical forests filled with exotic wildlife and active volcanoes, and we ride serious single track. With steep ascents and long,  fast descents, this is a real roller coaster ride through some spectacular scenery. The views will take your breath away long before the trails do.

Our adventure begins with two on the high plateau of the Mexican volcanoes, Popocatepetl, a volcano which is still active and Ixtaccihuatl; their peaks exceed 5000mt, and continue to a federal desert park  filled with  giant cacti and relics of the Cretaceous Period. Then we approach the highest volcano in Mexico, the Pico de Orizaba, 5700mt, touching twice the 4000m level and from there down hill t we descend into  tropical forests across the Sierra Madre Oriental and finish in rich tropical vegetation of high bush coffee plantations, mango, papaya, banana .. topped off with a technical day trip in a astonishing canyon; washing dust away with a beautiful jungle rafting experience.,. Continue on  to the jungles of Catemaco, monkeys, birds, waterfalls and bicycling  along the sea shore. From Sierra Madre mountains to the jungle, deep into the heart of the mysterious México.
